Not sure whether you need a combi boiler?
Deciding on whether to change to a combi boiler can be difficult, but here's some information to help you decide whether a combi boiler is right for your home.  And once the decision is made, we'll take care of everything for you, whichever type of boiler you chose.
IS A COMBI RIGHT FOR ME?
  • Do you have low mains water pressure? Most combi boilers need at least 1bar of mains water pressure to work. If your mains pressure is lower than this then a safety cut-out will prevent a combi boiler from operating. You will also need a good flow rate of water from the mains - typically 6-8litres per minute or more. Don't worry, we'll test this for you.
  • Do you run showers on floors above the hot water cylinder? Ordinary copper hot water cylinders have problems getting water to top floors as water doesn't like going uphill. A combi boiler can use mains pressure to push hot water to the top floor of a property to make showers more refreshing without pumps.
  • Do you need to recover storage space? If you are doing a loft conversion or want to get rid of an airing cupboard, a combi boiler will save space and the cost of hot water storage.
  • Do you run more than one hot tap at a time? If you have two showers running at the same time you will need a more powerful combi or one with a built-in water store. We'll calculate your combi boiler power and flow rate requirements for you.
  • Do you need instant hot water? If you need hot water at irregular times during the day then a normal hot water cylinder may not have time to recharge between users taking showers and baths. A combi will provide instant hot water at any time of day, but it does need to be sized properly to make sure it can cope with demand.
