Which type of boiler do I need?
If you're not sure which boiler you need then here's some information to help you decide on the most suitable type of boiler for your home.
What's involved in a boiler change?
If you're worried about the upheaval of a boiler change then don't be.
Here's what we do to minimise the fuss when we change your boiler.
Instant water heaters, regular, system and combi boilers have different advantages and the choice depends on your property and heating/hot water requirements.
Regular or 'open vent' boilers suit properties with low mains water pressure.
You will still need the space to store cold water to refill taps, toilets and the heating system and you'll need to keep hot water until you need it at the taps.
If you want high pressure showers you will need electric showers or shower pumps to boost your water pressure.
'System' boilers are for properties with higher mains water pressure and the need for larger hot water storage (such as unvented cylinders, often called MegaFlos).
This keeps lots of hot water available at mains pressure for showering, particualrly for top floor bathrooms that normal copper cylinders can't feed due to lower water pressure.
'Combi' boilers are useful when space isn't available to store hot water.
You get instant hot water from your boiler when you need it, but keep in mind that smaller combis typically can't supply more than one hot water outlet at a time and combis generally can't power the heating and hot water at the same time.
'Instant' water heaters are perfect if you already have electric heating, or you need hot water where there is no existing supply.
Either gas or electric powered, you get instant hot water when you need it, from single taps to whole house supplies.
